The Development Journey of High-End Sunrooms in China: From Luxury to Standard of Quality Living

Stage 1 (Late 1990s–2005): The Luxury Phase
Sunrooms first entered the Chinese market as "imported goods," primarily appearing in high-end hotels and villas for expatriates. During this period, sunrooms relied entirely on imported materials and design concepts, costing RMB 20,000–30,000 per square meter—a true luxury accessible only to a wealthy few. Installation required hiring foreign professional teams.

Stage 2 (2005–2015): Localization Exploration
With the emergence of China’s first specialized sunroom enterprises, localized products began to emerge. Domestic companies replaced imported materials with domestic aluminum alloys and standard tempered glass, significantly reducing production costs. By 2015, the average price dropped to RMB 8,000–15,000 per square meter, making sunrooms affordable for middle-to-high-income families. Brands like Sunrain and Novotel emerged, focusing on traditional fixed-structure designs with limited functionality.

Stage 3 (2016–2020): Professionalization and Segmentation
Driven by consumption upgrades, the market differentiated into distinct high-end, mid-range, and entry-level segments. High-end products emphasized material upgrades (e.g., Low-E glass, thermal break aluminum profiles) and personalized designs. Functions expanded beyond lighting to multifunctional living spaces like sunlit studies and tea rooms. From 2018 to 2020, the market grew from RMB 179.04 billion to RMB 223.72 billion, with a compound annual growth rate exceeding 10%.

Stage 4 (2021–Present): Smart and Systematized Integration
Under the "dual-carbon" goals and green building policies, sunrooms evolved into integral components of residential systems combining energy efficiency, intelligence, and aesthetics. New-generation products feature smart shading systems, automatic ventilation, and IoT control terminals. Third-generation Low-E hollow glass adoption reached 58%, with a heat transfer coefficient as low as 1.1 W/(m²·K). Modular designs reduced delivery cycles from 45–60 days to 21 days. Today, high-end customized sunrooms average over RMB 300,000 per project, with top-tier projects costing up to RMB 1 million.
